Why do we see the same pattern repeat itself? Originality is at first spurned except by a few, it slowly grows to mainstream acceptance, overexposure, death. The last part can be figurative, a dearth of quality production if you will, or literal in the case of so many artists. Layne Staley certainly falls into this category. His unique vocal style coupled with dark lyrics made him a poster child for the grunge movement. But like some of his contemporaries in the Pacific Northwest, the sun shone too brightly on him.
